University Library “Svetozar Markovic” Belgrade, Serbia has the pleasure of informing you that on August 12th at noon it honors the 2503rd anniversary of Battle of Marathon by organizing a public screening of professor Donald Kagan’s recorded lecture regarding this historical event available for the first time with Serbian subtitles.

We will try to better comprehend why this ancient battle is so important even today and how the experiences of ancient Greeks can be applied in the contemporary world.

We will use this occasion to officially launch the project of creation of Serbian subtitles for the professor Kagan’s entire lecture series CLCV 205: Introduction to Ancient Greek History. The project aims at providing a broader publicity in Serbia for ideas and academic results presented in this lecture series and will be realized entirely by the work of volunteers.

Professor Kagan is an American historian at Yale University specializing in ancient Greece, notable for his four-volume history of the Peloponnesian War. His course “Introduction to Ancient Greek History” was recorded for Open Yale Courses in Fall 2007 and has become one of the most popular academic resources with hundreds of thousands viewers on YouTube channel of the Yale University.
